Choose from our proposed trekking tours

Tanzania offers you a wide range of places to go trekking in and even more routes to do it on: legendary Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, the Ngorongoro Highlands where authentic Africa is preserved, the enchanting Empakaai Crater, Oldoinyo Lengai, the active volcano, the forested Arusha National Park and its peak Mount Meru and the many further destinations. To help you with your choice our team of dedicated guides put forward a list of trekking itineraries we propose:

  • Mount Meru: Although neither as famous nor as tall as Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru offers you an equally fascinating experience. With an altitude of 4566m Mount Meru also presents the distinct vegetation zones from lush rainforest to alpine desert. Moreover, on your trekking tour you are more likely to see animals thanks to the fact that Mount Meru is at the heart of animal rich Arusha National Park. In addition, you have fewer tourists than on Mount Kilimanjaro.

  • The Ngorongoro Highlands - from Nainokanoka to Ngare Sero: This trekking tour takes you in four days through the fertile Ngorongoro Highlands. In spectacular scenery, you experience authentic Africa where indigenous Maasai people live in their traditional ways in the unspoilt nature of the protected Ngorongoro Conservation Area. This multiple use of land makes the Ngorongoro Highlands the ideal place to experience authentic Africa.

  • Empakaai Crater, the enchanting crater: In the heart of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Empakaai Crater with its forest clad slopes and the soda lake on its floor presents an even lusher biosphere than the surrounding fertile grasslands of the Ngorongoro Highlands. This spectacular scenery provides an ideal setting to explore nature close up on a one day hike.

  • Olmoti Crater, the hidden source of Ngorongoro’s water: On this one day hike, you ascend to Olmoti Crater. You see the fertile pastures where the Maasai herders graze their cattle in the dry season and on the way you visit the waterfall of the Munge River, the main source of water for the Ngorongoro Crater.

  • Oldoinyo Lengai, the mountain of god: Climbing Oldoinyo Lengai is an exhilarating, unforgettable experience. The Maasai mountain of god is an active volcano. After a strenuous climb, usually through the night, you can witness the volcanic activity on the summit and enjoy a stunning view, in particular over the Ngorongoro Highlands and Lake Natron.

Depending upon the tour, accommodation may only be in tents or you may have a choice between camping and lodges. However, to ensure that you enjoy a comfortable and relaxing trip, Soaring Flamingo provides the camp for you. The full infrastructure of the camp will be provided and catered for and our employees take care of all the chores. In particular, there will be a cook to prepare you a delicious meal upon your return to the camp and make sure that you will have nutritious lunch packs to take along the following day. In terms of camping gear, we suggest that you bring your own mattress and sleeping bag, but can also provide you with these materials, if necessary.

All trekking tours can be booked at all times. Just send us your request on the trekking tour you would like to make in our booking form.

If the proposed itineraries do not completely match your interest and wishes and whatever your personal preferences may be, we will be happy to design a tailor-made trekking tour for you. Please request our proposal by providing us with some basic information through our booking form.

If you wish to see a rich variety of wildlife in a comparatively short time and spice up your trekking tour with a driving safari to one or more of the stunning national parks of Tanzania’s Northern Circuit, such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Manyara and Tarangire, we highly recommend that you also consider our safari options. It is possible to combine any of our trekking proposals with driving safari elements.
